Jean Lafitte, LA –The town of Jean Lafitte has been selected as a recipient of the Healthy Communities Grant by Keep Louisiana Beautiful, the State’s premier anti-litter and community improvement organization.

The Healthy Communities Grant will support Jean Lafitte’s Anti-Litter Project, an initiative to educate and engage the community to reduce the amount of litter in the town and its local waterways. Litter thrown along roadways often finds its way into local waterways, which in turn has consequences for our wildlife and standard of living. The $6,222.65 grant will be used to launch a litter awareness campaign that will include purchasing six, 34-gallon recycling bins, educational signage, volunteer cleanup kits with collapsible reacher and reusable new bag, as well as community outreach and education with the public. Additionally, the town will be making a push on social media to increase awareness throughout the town to deliver an anti-litter message about beautifying the town and engaging the public.

“We would like to thank Keep Louisiana Beautiful for this grant that will be used keep Jean Lafitte beautiful. We live in an amazing community that includes some of the state’s most beautiful scenery. With this grant, we can educate the public on the consequences of littering and help maintain the natural beauty of our area,” said Jean Lafitte Mayor, Tim Kerner. “Litter is not just an issue of aesthetics; it can also be transported into our storm drain system and eventually end up in our bayous and marsh, becoming a detriment to our fishing and tourism industry. Picking up litter is something we can all do to make a difference in our community. Let’s work together to keep Jean Lafitte beautiful!”
